In February 1998, EpicPark finally confirmed that the new coaster would be named Rainbow Dash Express in the new Friendship Landing section of the park themed around the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic TV show.
In March 1998, the park began construction on the ride, and construction finished on June 25, 1998.
On July 1, 1998, the coaster finally opened.
In 2005, the coaster was updated with a new break system.
- On August 1, 2000, the ride suddenly stopped on the lift hill. All riders were eventually evacuated and no injuries were reported.
- On April 9, 2010, a 12-year-old boy fell out of the ride and died. An inspection found his lap bar had malfunctioned: the other passenger in the car he was in held on tightly to the lap bar until the ride came to an end. After this incident, EpicPark ordered new lap bars from Vekoma, and notified guests in case of any malfunction of anything on the train they would immediatly stop the ride.
